Who we are
Mofghoul Studios ("Mofghoul," "we," "us" or "our") is an independent game developer based in Pennsylvania, United States. We make video games, including Fins of Fate, and operate the website at mofghoul.com.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit our website, play our games, take part in a playtest or contact us (together, the "Services"), how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. For residents of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, Mofghoul is the controller of the personal information described here.

Information we collect
Information you give us
- Messages and support requests. When you email us, we receive your email address, name (if you include it), the content of your message and any attachments, such as screenshots.
- Playtest sign-ups. If you ask to join a playtest, we receive your email address and the details you choose to send, such as the device you play on.
- Player name. If a game lets you choose a display name, we store the name you choose. Other players may see it.
- Feedback and reports. Bug reports, survey answers, and reports about other players.
Information collected when you play
- Account and identifiers. A player ID we assign, and, if you choose to sign in with a platform account such as Apple Game Center or Sign in with Apple, the identifier that platform provides to us. With Sign in with Apple, Apple may also share your name and an email address, which can be a private relay address Apple creates for you. We don't receive your platform password.
- Game data. Your progress, fish, items, scales and other in-game currency, settings, scores, match results and ranked tier.
- Gameplay and performance data. Information about how the game runs and is played, such as levels attempted, run length, the powers you choose, frame rate, load times and errors. We use this to balance difficulty and fix problems.
- Device and technical data. Device model, operating system and version, language and region settings, game version, and network information such as your IP address, which is needed to connect you to online play and is used to estimate your general region.
- Crash reports and diagnostics. If the game crashes, a report describing the device state and what the game was doing.
- Multiplayer data. When you play online, information needed to connect players and run matches, such as session and party codes and in-match actions, so the game can stay in sync and detect cheating.
Information collected when you visit our website
Our website is hosted by Amazon Web Services. Like most web servers, it automatically records standard request information, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested, the referring page and the date and time of the request. These logs are used for security and to keep the site running, and are kept for a limited time. Our website doesn't set cookies, doesn't use analytics or advertising trackers, and serves its fonts and images from our own servers.
Information from third parties
- Platforms. If you use Apple Game Center, Sign in with Apple or similar services, the platform may share your player identifier and, where you allow it, your friends list or display name.
- App stores. When you make a purchase, Apple processes the payment. We receive a confirmation of the transaction, such as a product ID and order or transaction ID, so we can deliver what you bought. We don't receive your payment card details.
What we don't collect
We don't ask for or knowingly collect precise location, contacts, photos, health information, or government ID numbers through our games. We don't use facial or voice recognition. We don't use your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) or track you across other companies' apps and websites, so our games don't ask for App Tracking Transparency permission.
If a game offers push notifications, we'll only send them if you allow them in your device settings, and you can turn them off at any time.
How we use information
- To provide the Services: save your progress, deliver purchases, run online and co-op play, and show leaderboards and ranked tiers.
- To support you: answer questions, investigate bugs, and handle privacy requests.
- To improve our games: understand how levels and features are played, balance difficulty, and fix crashes and performance problems.
- To keep play fair and safe: detect and prevent cheating, fraud, abuse and security incidents, and enforce our Terms of Service.
- To communicate with you: send playtest invitations, service messages, and, only if you've asked for them, news about our games. You can opt out of non-essential emails at any time.
- To comply with law: meet legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
We don't use your information to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you based solely on automated processing.
Legal bases (EEA, UK and Switzerland)
Where data protection law requires a legal basis, we rely on:
- Contract: to provide the game and features you've asked for.
- Legitimate interests: to improve our games, keep them secure and fair, and answer your messages, where those interests aren't overridden by your rights.
- Consent: for optional things like marketing emails. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legal obligation: where the law requires us to process information.
How long we keep information
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy:
- Game account and progress (once online accounts are available): while your account is active, and deleted within 30 days after you ask us to delete it, except where we must keep some records for legal, security or fraud-prevention reasons.
- Support emails: up to 3 years after the conversation ends, so we can help if the problem comes back.
- Gameplay, performance and crash data: kept in identifiable form for up to 24 months, then deleted or aggregated so it no longer identifies you.
- Website server logs: kept for a limited period for security, generally no longer than 90 days.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information, including encryption in transit, access controls and limiting access to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security. If we learn of a breach that affects your personal information, we'll notify you and the authorities as the law requires.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Know and access the personal information we hold about you, and get a copy in a portable format.
- Correct information that's inaccurate.
- Delete your personal information.
- Object to or restrict certain processing, including processing based on legitimate interests.
- Withdraw consent where we rely on it.
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for targeted advertising, and of profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects. We don't do either.
- Appeal our decision if we decline your request, by replying to our response.
- Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
To make a request, email support@mofghoul.com with "Privacy request" in the subject, and include your player name or ID if you have one. We'll confirm we received it, may ask you to verify your identity, and will respond within the time the law requires (for example, 45 days under California law, or one month under EU and UK law). You can authorize an agent to make a request for you; we may ask for proof of that authorization.
You can also delete game data stored on your device by uninstalling the game, and manage platform permissions, such as Game Center, in your device settings.
If you're in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, you can complain to your local data protection authority. We'd appreciate the chance to help first.
Notice for U.S. state residents
Residents of California and other U.S. states with comprehensive privacy laws have the rights described above. Before our games launch, the personal information we collect is mostly emails you send us and website server logs. Once our games are available, we collect, or expect to collect, these categories of personal information, for the purposes and with the recipients described in this policy:
- Identifiers, such as player ID, platform ID, email address and IP address.
- Commercial information, such as records of in-game purchases.
- Internet or other electronic network activity, such as gameplay, performance and crash data and website server logs.
- General geolocation estimated from IP address (not precise location).
- Inferences, such as skill level used for matchmaking.
We don't collect sensitive personal information for the purpose of inferring characteristics about you. We don't sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law, and we have no actual knowledge of selling or sharing the personal information of consumers under 16. We honor Global Privacy Control signals where the law requires, although we don't engage in the activities they're designed to stop. Because we don't track you across other sites, our website doesn't change its behavior in response to browser "Do Not Track" signals; there's nothing for them to turn off.
Children
Our games and website are intended for people 13 and older. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under the minimum age in your country). If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us at support@mofghoul.com and we'll delete it. If you're between 13 and 18, please review this policy with a parent or guardian.
International transfers
We're based in the United States, and our providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Where we transfer personal information from the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or other lawful transfer mechanisms.
Third-party services and links
Our Services may link to or work with services we don't control, such as the App Store or Game Center. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, and we encourage you to read them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our games and the law change. We'll post the new version here with a new "Last updated" date. If we make material changes, we'll give notice in a more prominent way, such as in the game or by email, before the changes take effect.
